Sometimes it's all in asking the right questions. For example: instead of asking, "Do you have?" you might be better off to ask, "Can you get?"
For 40 plus years, used auto parts dealers in North Carolina have been buying from other dealers, the parts they don't have in stock, to meet the needs of their customers. It began as a voice over wire service that worked a lot like the old party line telephones except that no one ever hung up the phone. That allowed a dealer in one city to shout a parts request to dozens of dealers throughout the state who were constantly listening for requests they could fill.
Most of those old wire services still exist but now-a-days, thanks to the magic of computers, a dealer in one city can check other dealers' inventories and order the parts without even having to pick up the telephone. All you'll need to do is pay for the part in advance so they don't get stuck with a part they don't need.
Often you can pick up the part the next day because many of North Carolina's used parts dealers have fleets of delivery trucks moving parts around the clock to get them where they're needed. And in most cases the parts you need can be delivered directly to the garage or body shop that is repairing your car.
You see, many years ago I was one of those drivers.
